Re: Martin Crowe
I said the connection with Roebuck was meant to imply he was gay not a 'gay sexual predator'. That was your exaggeration
Crowe spoke of a 'tall poppy culture' in NZ where he was sniped at.
My comment about red blooded Kiwis was an ironic description of boneheaded homophobes who hounded Crowe because he wasn't blokey enough for them .
The twisting to imply I was referring to red blooded KIwis as 'normal' compared to gay men is bizarre.
And part of your continuing campaign never to criticise any NZ person.
Even the ones who treated Martin Crowe terribly.

Re: Martin Crowe
No, you insinuated he was one, by his association with the other gay, sexual predator Roebuck.

And, you were suggesting that there were rumours to that effect, which I refuted.

Now, if you'd asked if there were rumours he was gay, then I would have agreed.

Quite what that has to do with the price of fish though, I have no idea.

Probably latent Australian homophobia.

As the article makes ABUNDANTLY clear, the rumours were started by the press.

You seemed to be implying that "normal" red-blooded Kiwi males held the same opinion, or started those rumours, which, to my knowledge, isn't correct.

Now, I've spent enough time trying to put an end to your distasteful innuendo.

Sven Roeder 11:38 Thu Mar 3
Re: Martin Crowe
It was you that called him a gay sexual predator.

I said that the article said he was a 'friend of Roebuck' which to me was some sort of cheap shorthand insinuation that he was gay.
And obviously from that article the insinuations were widespread amongst the gutter Kiwi press and those that Crowe himself described as those who treated him like a 'tall poppy' and whispered about AIDS when in fact he had an infection from Sri Lanka.

Jonah , will it kill you to admit that SOME Kiwis made up rumours about him because he wasn't 'one of the boys'?

East Auckland Hammer 11:19 Thu Mar 3
Re: Martin Crowe
Oh, so, I see what you're actually asking is whether there were any rumours that Crowe was GAY?

Not a gay, sexual predator like Roebuck.

Well, your article would appear to show that it was almost entirely tabloid-media driven, and explains it quite well.

Of course, the most relevant line in relation to your question is this:

"There were apparently very few who believed that Crowe was gay."

And, if you've ever seen his first wife, she was a stunner, and probably knobbing a former Miss Universe eased the pain of the rumours somewhat.

Sven Roeder 10:47 Thu Mar 3

There was no insinuation during my time that PR was keen on rearranging blokes' furniture. Worth bearing in mind that the Surrey captain was RDV Knight, also of Cambridge, at roughly the same time as PR.

They would sledge each other in a scholarly manner, which was different to the general sledging involving fucks, cunts, shitting yourself and other original lines.

Re: Martin Crowe
Insinuations that he was a gay, sexual predator?

Absolutely not.

Sven Roeder 10:47 Thu Mar 3
Re: Martin Crowe
I thought the article seemed keen to emphasise the 'friend of Peter Roebuck'.

The insinuations by red blooded Kiwi males were there though weren't they?

East Auckland Hammer 10:46 Thu Mar 3
Re: Martin Crowe
Sven, I have absolutely no clue where you've got the idea that Kiwis thought he was EVER a gay, sexual predator.

Perhaps in Australia you all called him it from the terraces, like so many other things Kiwi players were called, but that doesn't mean they were true.

East Auckland Hammer 10:44 Thu Mar 3
Re: Martin Crowe
Yeah that's right VH, Sven's implying guilt by association.

But then, I shouldn't have expected anything less.

You bowl to Hogan while he was over there?

Sven Roeder 10:43 Thu Mar 3
Re: Martin Crowe
You posted the article!
And that WAS the insinuation in NZ by many of his countrymen wasn't it?
Mainly because he was someone who thought about the game and wasn't your usual Kiwi male.

Nice little piece on Sky as a tribute earlier by Jeremy Coney about Crowe featuring Hadlee, Botham, Gower, Border & Ian Healy.

So Martin Crowe passes away, and is remember as one of the leading batsmen of his generation, a great cricketing thinker and general all-round good bloke, and Sven manages to insinuate that he's a gay sexual predator.

Australians eh?
